I am facing an issue with my laptop's audio. When I try to decrease the volume, the percentage shown on the screen changes, but the actual sound level remains the same. The volume does not decrease even though the indicator shows a lower percentage.

I have already tried the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Disabled audio enhancements (but the option was not available).
  2. Reinstalled and updated the audio drivers.
  3. Ran the Windows audio troubleshooter.
  4. Restarted Windows Audio services.

Despite all these attempts, the issue persists. Please provide a solution to fix this problem.

Hi @AAYUSH_TYAGI

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Commendable diagnosis, superb troubleshooting, and splendid description of the issue before posting. Hats off to you on that score. 😊

I understand adjusting the volume is not working.

Not to worry, I'll do everything I can to help get this sorted for you.

I need some information to assist you better.

May I know your laptop's product or model number?

Does this happen with the laptop internal speaker or when connected to an external headphone or speaker?

Which version of the operating system is installed on your laptop? (Windows 10 or 11)

In the meantime, try the below suggestions.

Right-click on the speaker icon in your taskbar and select "Open Volume Mixer".

Check if individual applications have their volume set correctly and are not muted.

If you have multiple audio applications running, close any that might interfere with your system volume.

In Control panel.
-Select Sound.
-Select the Playback tab
-Right click the Speakers and click Enable.
-Right-click it again and select Set as Default Device.
-Right click Speakers and click Properties.
-Click the Levels tab, then drag the volume slider towards the largest value.
-Click on Advance Tab
-Uncheck the box to "Allow Application to take exclusive controls on this device"
-Click OK.

Restart your computer and check the audio.

If this solution hit the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
