Hi @Lioneln,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates since your original post. While this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊

I understand that after updating Windows, your HP Desktop is now showing “No audio device installed.” Since this started immediately after a Windows update, the audio driver may no longer be loading correctly, or Windows may have replaced the HP audio driver.

Let's first confirm a few details so we can provide the correct steps for your specific HP system.

Please check these first
1. Open Device Manager

  • Right-click Start → Device Manager.
  • Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
  • Also check Audio inputs and outputs.
  • Please tell us exactly what you see there.
  • If you see Unknown device, High Definition Audio Device, or a device with a yellow exclamation mark, please mention that.

2. Check whether Windows detects an audio output

Go to: Settings → System → Sound

Under Output, tell us whether you see an available speaker/headphone device or whether it says “No output devices found.”

3. Run HP's Audio Hardware Diagnostic
HP recommends using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows → Component Tests → Audio → Audio Playback Test to check the audio subsystem.

If the test fails, please provide the 24-digit Failure ID shown by the diagnostic. If it passes, that would point us more toward a Windows/driver issue rather than an audio hardware failure.

One important detail for HP desktops
Some HP desktop models do not have built-in speakers, so the absence of sound from the tower itself does not necessarily indicate a problem. You may need external speakers, headphones, or a monitor with speakers depending on the desktop configuration.

Please also provide the exact HP desktop model/product number and let us know which Windows update was installed immediately before the audio disappeared, if you know the update/KB number.

Once we have those details, we can determine whether the correct next step is to reinstall the HP audio driver, address the Windows update, or investigate the hardware.
