Solved after a month of frustration!! No help from HP or Microsoft.
Open the Device Manager. Under the Systems folder in the Device Manager, search for the Audio device controller. Delete it.
Restart the PC and sounds comes back on restart.
Hope this helps all of you.

Hi @okekebadman,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
To be able to answer you effectively, we need some information.
May I have the exact name and product number of the unit? Do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.

Same issue on HP All-in-one hardware. Exact same date of windows upgrade. I have tried everything. Removed/updated audio drivers ad nauseum. The internal speakers work because I can check by restarting computer, hitting ESC key during restart, then F2 and running audio check. Must be a software issue.
My Apple EarPods do work, so I have that.
Very frustrating.

I have an HP Envy All-in-one. DESKTOP-NCQS78K. I also lost all audio on December 5th with the Windows 11 update. Updating the drivers is not a solution at this time. I have done all of that. The speakers do work as I have tested that.

I want to follow you, but I need more precise locations if you are able to tell me in Windows 11 format. In the Device Manager, there is something called "system devices", then there is "High Definition Audio Controller". Is that what I am deleting?
Or is it in in one of these places:
1- Audio inputs and outputs
2- Audio Processing Objects
3- Sound, video and game controllers
I am afraid to delete the wrong one. Thanks for any help in advance.
