HP All-in-One PC 27-dp1387c

I've checked every solution I could find here, but none works: I still get the error that no audio device is detected. But when I run hardware diagnostics, the sound is good and clear. Why?

Hi @RXT1885a,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP All-in-One PC 27 running Windows 11 is experiencing a software-related audio issue, even though the hardware appears to be functioning correctly. Here are a few steps to resolve this issue.

Confirm Audio Devices in Device Manager

  1. Open Device Manager:
    • Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
  2. Check for Audio Devices:
    • Expand the Sound, video, and game controllers section.
    • Look for your audio device (e.g., Realtek, Intel, or similar).
    • If the device has a yellow triangle, an update or driver issue exists.
  3. Action:
    • Right-click the device and choose Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.

Check Audio Settings

  1. Open Sound Settings:
    • Right-click the Sound icon in the taskbar and select Sound settings.
  2. Select Output Device:
    • Under Output, ensure the correct audio device is selected.
    • If none appear, select Add device and follow the prompts to reconnect.
  3. Set Default Device:
    • Click More sound settings, select your audio device, and click Set Default.

Restart Audio Services

  1. Open Services:
    • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Find Windows Audio Services:
    • Locate Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder.
  3. Restart Services:
    • Right-click each service and choose Restart.
    • Ensure both are set to Automatic.

Reinstall the Audio Driver

  1. Uninstall the Current Driver:
    • In Device Manager, right-click your audio device and select Uninstall device.
    • Check the option to delete the driver software, if available.
  2. Reinstall Driver:
    • Restart the PC. Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.
    • Alternatively, download the latest driver from the HP Support website for your model.

Test with HP Support Assistant

  1. Open HP Support Assistant (preinstalled on your device).
  2. Run the Audio Check tool under Diagnostics to verify audio performance and settings.

Update Windows and BIOS

  1. Update Windows:
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and install any pending updates.
  2. Update BIOS:
    • Visit the HP Support website, download the latest BIOS for your model, and follow the installation instructions.

Use the Microsoft Troubleshooter

  1. Open Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  2. Run the Playing Audio troubleshooter and follow the suggestions.

Why Diagnostics Show Sound But Windows Does Not?

  • Driver Mismatch: The system diagnostics bypass Windows drivers, testing the hardware directly.
  • Corrupt Windows Audio Configuration: Windows might not recognize the audio hardware properly due to registry or driver issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
