Hi @Coryhranicky,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

No worries, I can guide you through some simple steps to get the internal microphone on your HP All-in-One working. Let's try to get this sorted out.

Check Microphone Settings

  1. Click on the speaker icon in the bottom right corner of your screen (next to the clock).
  2. Right-click on the icon and select "Open Sound settings".
  3. Scroll down to "Input" and make sure the microphone is listed as the "Default Device".
    • If you see a different device listed, click the drop-down menu and select your internal microphone.
    • Test if it's picking up sound by speaking into the mic, and check if the input level bar moves.

Update the Microphone Driver

  1. Press the Windows key and type "Device Manager" in the search box, then press Enter.
  2. In Device Manager, look for "Audio Inputs and Outputs" and click on the arrow next to it to expand.
  3. Right-click on the microphone device and select "Update Driver".
  4. Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software" and let it find the latest driver for your mic.

Enable Microphone in Privacy Settings

  1. Press the Windows key and go to Settings.
  2. Select Privacy & Security and scroll down to Microphone.
  3. Make sure that "Microphone access" is turned on for apps.

Test the Microphone

After completing these steps, you can test the microphone by opening the Voice Recorder app on Windows:

  1. Press the Windows key and type "Voice Recorder".
  2. Click on the app, then press the Record button and try speaking into the mic.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you very much for your email. I honestly didn't expect anyone to respond. After I posted my message, I kept digging and discovered that my computer doesn't have a microphone. You can't imagine how I felt when I realized that. I felt terrible for getting upset with HP due to my own oversight, so I truly apologize.

Thanks again and have a fantastic weekend.

Hi, sorry to bother you, but do you recommend a moderately priced microphone for my computer?

Hi @Coryhranicky,

Thank you for your response,

Thank you for clarifying, and realizing your computer doesn’t have a built-in microphone after troubleshooting can indeed be surprising, but it’s a common misunderstanding. I'm glad you're now looking for an external microphone solution!

TONOR TC30 USB Microphone

  • Price Range: $30–$50
  • Features:
    • Affordable yet delivers great sound clarity
    • Includes shock mount and pop filter
    • USB plug-and-play

Key Considerations

  • Purpose: Choose a mic based on your primary use (e.g., voice calls, streaming, or recording).
  • USB vs. 3.5mm: Most modern PCs work best with USB mics due to plug-and-play compatibility.
  • Placement: Look for desktop microphones with adjustable stands or compact designs.

I hope this helps.
