I can't find my microphone so  it shows on my bar below on my desktop hp,  I can't get it to open and work

Make sure you are allowing the microphone to be used

If you have a headset or headphone plugged into the audio jack then remove it as windows may think you have a microphone connected.

--or--

verify the input is the built in microphone and not the audio jack

look at all sound devices and make sure if more than one input is possible, that the correct microphone input is the one selected. Some webcam have their own audio input.
