Hello,

 

I'm writing from Italy.

Yesterday evening I made some work on my PC (PAVILION 690-0005NL) than I shut down normally. After few hour I turn on and I receive 0xc00000e9 error with file \windows\system32\winload.efi

I had no external HD connected to my desktop.

I'm not able to go to system restore because I receive always same error.

I tried to start from USB created with media creation tool after changing boot order but I receive the same error.

I tried to disable secure boot and enable legacy bios. I remade USB using rufus with partition scheme MBR and target System "BIOS or UEFI".

In this way I was able to boot from USB but if I try a system restore no windows disk were detected.

I was able to open a command prompt and I can see my hard drives (SSD and HD). chkdsk give me no error.

What can I do before formatting all and reinstalling all windows?

My PC has only 3 months!

From your descriptions, sounds like part of your boot loader filesystem got corrupted, and that is sometimes repairable.

 

You will need access to a working PC to create a bootable USB stick to do the repairs.

 

If your PC can not boot into Windows, a way around that is to follow the instructions below to create boot media from Macrium Reflect (MR) that can be used to rewrite/repair the boot media on your PC:
1) Download and install Macrium Reflect (MR) from this link on a working PC: http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx
2) Use the option to create a boot USB stick or CD

That will create MR bootable media. Then, you can boot your PC into WinPE using that media.

Have patience, as that can take a while to start and bring up the screen.

Once the screen is there, select the option to Fix Windows boot problems. It will then search for the OSs installed and list them, Select the one you want to repair and click Next.

It will now do the repairs, listing the things it has done.

When finished, select the option to Restart the PC.

If this worked, the boot repair succeeded and you will have your PC back.

Use the W10 USB stick, with a Secure Boot setting in the BIOS and...


Even though it has NO actual HP software/drivers included, you may be able to
XCOPY the C:\Users\* area onto a ‘large’ USB stick, via the Command Prompt.

You’ll need to try various drive letters; D:..-..Z: until it’s matched - could be G; mine’s S:

C:\>XCOPY C:\Users\* S:\ /e /i /h (then files like those 3 listed below get copied over)

C:\Users\desktop.ini
C:\Users\All Users\agent.1509128044.bdinstall.bin
C:\Users\All Users\HP Deskjet 2540 series\Help\flash\zoom.swf

Then you can try System Recovery Options / Advanced Options shown in the screenshots.
NB: - W10 Begin with the Automatic Repair, then Startup Settings etc.

From either the C:\ or the X:\ prompt try the following

cd boot
bootrec /FixMBR
bootrec /FixBoot
bootrec /RebuildBCD

Also I would make and USE LUBUNTU  on a USB stick, bit that is because I am familiar with it.

Thanks for tour answers. 

I tried with suggested program but fix doesn't have any effect. I still have dame error.

I also tried with prompt command to recreate bcd but with no success. 

Hp warranty cover this Kind of sw errors? Do I have to bring It back to the (online) store where I bought It?

Maybe this....

This First part only works when a valid Recovery Partition is enabled.

If it displays an error message then move onto the Second part,
OR if you have data you wish to try and save using the XCOPY command.
Then create your own Repair/Recovery/Rebuild/Re-install media or buy a set from HP.

Turn off the computer.

Disconnect all connected devices and cables, Media Drives, USB drives, printers, & faxes.
Remove media from internal drives, and remove any recently added internal hardware.
Do not disconnect the monitor, keyboard, mouse, or power cord.

Turn on the computer and repeatedly press the F11 key, about once every second,
until the Choose an option screen is displayed, and then continue.

On the Choose an Option screen, click Troubleshoot, and work your way through the screens.

Second Part:-
This may require another PC. Find and Download your .iso from…
(You will need a NON_OEM key for W7;
W8.x and W10 should activate automagically from their embedded licence key.)

Thanks for your answers.

Unfortunately I've already tried with no success all suggested commands.

F11 give me the same error, no recovery load.

bootrec works for first 2 command but give me an error on third.

I copied users data and sw_setup folder with xcopy to the other HD.

Now after 2 days I will format SSD and reinstall windows 10. If I will have an error it will be hardware fault. I hope no with a new PC!

I reckon there might be a bug in HP UEFI

I have a client with HP All-In-One that has similar problem. Here is what I've tried.

First, load default BIOS and reboot

 

1. Disable Secure Boot and enable CSM. I can boot Legacy Windows 10 installation USB or installation DVD and perform install process and PC works OK.

 

2. Disable Secure Boot and enable CSM. An unexpected i/o error winload.efi  error if booting UEFI Windows 10 installation USB or installation DVD. Unable to install Windows 10.

 

3. Disable Secure Boot and disable CSM. An unexpected i/o error winload.efi  error during Windows 10 installation USB or installation DVD. Unable to install Windows 10.

 

4. Enable Secure Boot and disable CSM. An unexpected i/o error winload.efi  error during Windows 10 installation USB or installation DVD. Unable to install Windows 10.

 

Haven't tried update the BIOS.
