Hi, recently my dad replaced the screen on my desktop, and afterwards it wouldn’t boot up all the way and when i would plug the power cable into it the power led would instantly start flashing a white light 7 times. I know white lights indicate a minor issue, but i couldn’t find anything that 7 flashes could mean. Also my dad didn’t put a backlight cable into the new screen, so i assumed thats part of the issue but just to kill 2 birds with one stone, what does the 7 white flashes mean?

Hi @solargrave,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I understand that you are having issues with the flashing white light
The 7 white flashes of the power LED on your HP All-in-One PC 24-dd0000a typically indicate a hardware-related error, often related to the display or other internal components. In HP PCs, specific flash codes correspond to particular hardware issues, and 7 flashes often point to problems with the display, graphics, or processor.
Given that the screen was recently replaced and the backlight cable wasn’t connected, it's highly likely that this is contributing to the problem. Here's what you can do to address both the display connection issue and the flashing light code:
Reconnect the Backlight Cable:
- Since the backlight cable was not connected when the screen was replaced, this is likely affecting the display’s functionality. Without the backlight, the screen may not function correctly, leading to boot errors.
- Reconnect the backlight cable securely to the screen. Ensure all connections are properly seated and nothing is loose.
Check All Display Cables and Connections:
- Double-check all display-related cables, including the video cable and any additional connections inside the PC.
- Ensure that there are no loose or improperly connected cables, as this can prevent the system from booting correctly.
Check for Other Hardware Disconnections:
- Open the PC carefully and inspect for any other components that may have been disconnected or improperly reassembled during the screen replacement.
- Verify connections for RAM, hard drives, and other internal components.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Unplug the power cord from the PC.
- Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to drain residual power.
- Reconnect the power cable and try to start the PC again.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @solargrave ,
Please find the remaining steps below.
Refer to HP Service Manual or Documentation:
- Check the HP Service Manual for your model, which may have specific diagnostics for the power LED flash codes.
- If the specific meaning of 7 white flashes isn’t listed in common resources, it might be detailed in more model-specific documentation.
Reset CMOS/BIOS:
- Disconnect the PC from power, then remove the CMOS battery from the motherboard for a few minutes to reset the BIOS settings.
- Reinsert the CMOS battery, plug the power cord back in, and attempt to boot the PC.
If reconnecting the backlight cable and checking connections doesn’t resolve the issue, the flashing may indicate a more complex hardware fault.
If the issue persists even after checking the connections and cables, the problem could be related to a damaged component or improper reassembly during the screen replacement. It might be best to consult or contact HP phone support for further diagnostics and repair.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
