OMEN 30L Desktop GT13-0000i (236B1AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I tried to update my Omen 30L from BIOS F.30 to F.30 RevA and it didn't go so well. Below are a YouTube video of what happened and two screencaps from the video.

I know HP has some kind of recovery method, where you hold down Win+B and turn the machine on to get into it, but my Omen was trying to use recovery on its own and it didn't work. It finally just shut down after the fourth attempt. Would a BIOS image from a USB thumb drive work better, or is my machine likely bricked?

When you made the file, didn't it provide the steps I posted?

There's nothing about pressing  the Win + B key.

Those actions are just for notebook PCs.

If you can't fix it, the next step would be to take it in to a PC repair shop.

The only suggestion I can offer would be to try making a USB BIOS recovery drive to recover your PC's BIOS.

Below is the link to the latest BIOS update HP has for your PC's motherboard:

OMEN 30L Desktop GT13-0092 Bundle PC (1K0C3AA) Software and Driver Details

The is link explains how to create a BIOS recovery flash drive.

Updating the BIOS on HP Consumer Desktops outside of Windows 11| HP Computers| HP Support - YouTube

Here is how to use the BIOS recovery flash drive after it has been successfully created:

After you create the USB BIOS recovery drive, follow the instructions that show up after the USB recovery drive has been successfully created.

1. Power off the device to be recovered.

2. Insert the USB flash drive into a USB port.

3. Power on the device.

4. The device may reboot up to 3 times with indicator lights on the keyboard flashing, or the screen appearing blank for short time.

Hopefully, that will fix the problem for you.

The first link leads to a Page Not Found page.

Here's the direct link to the file download.

sp156529.exe

The webpage is acting crazy.

You get the page and unless you click on the 'x' to stop the page from loading, it goes to a completely different model PC or quits working.

I have the drive with the BIOS image inserted, but it's still doing the same thing. It gets to block 128x and then reboots.

Sorry that didn't work.

I guess your choices are to accept the loss and replace the PC, take it to a shop and hope they can fix it, or replace the system board.

I downloaded the file and made the recovery drive. I plugged it into the port, held down Win+B and turned my Omen on. All it did was go into the recovery  from last night and try to write the new BIOS and then  reboot at about 31%, complain about a corrupted BIOS,  boot back into recovery, reach 31%, wash, rinse,  repeat.  I never even saw a menu where I could point it to the USB drive. Would I be better off  taking it to a repair  shop at this point?

I just tried it again, without pressing  anything. Same thing  happen.

Edit: I  got it to boot! I held down Win+V and the power button. At first, it  beeped and boot looped, but then was able to break  out of it  and restore  another BIOS from a  backup of some type. It may be  on its old  default BIOS. I don't care, I don't care.  It lives and I can at least retrieve  my files.

I’m having the same issue and so this will be the last Omen I ever buy. But holding Win+V and the power button for a long time fixed it! Be patient, your computer might restart 10+ times before it finally restores an old version of the BIOS. Do NOT use F.30RevA, it’s clearly broken.
