Solved!

BIOS Menu

HP Recommended
Pavilion 400-434
Linux

Hello .

Recently , I had a hard drive crash in my 400-434 Desktop . I purchased a new internal SSD and installed it . My intention is to install Linux Mint 19.2 which I have installed in the past from a dvd .

Problem is , the PC will not boot with no OS installed and I have been unable to reach the BIOS Menu so I can boot from the dvd .

I have read that HP uses F10 or ESC to open the BIOS Menu , but it could also be many other keys . I've tried all the "F" keys plus delete and some others with no luck at all . When I turn the PC on , the HP Logo appears briefly but gives no indication of what key to use to open the BIOS menu . After a few seconds I am taken to an error screen indicating no boot disk .

Any suggestions on how I may be able to access to BIOS menu ( or otherwise install Linux from my dvd ) would be very much appreciated .

Thank You .

Hi:

You should be able to access the BIOS by pressing the ESC key immediately after turning on the PC.

Then you should get a menu of options.

Select the F9 boot options menu and from that select the DVD drive, and press the Enter key.

Watch the screen for a message to press any key to boot from the DVD.  Press any key.
