Hi my computer screen is black. And the caps light blinks 5 times slowly then three times fast and then again. This indicates a BIOS/firmware corruption error and almost every keyboard trick hasn’t worked as nothing shows up on the screen: power then esc, power+B+windows, power +V + Windows, windows+shift+B+power etc etc. Now I can’t get into my computer manually and I don’t have any tools other than a screwdriver what can I do?

That code indicates the BIOS cannot access an important component.  Possibly memory is the problem.  An adapter or graphics card not seated correctly can cause the problem.  You can also look for damage to the motherboard.  Bad Capacitors
Overheat Symptoms

1 - memory

You need to remove all the memory chips and clean the motherboard as best you can with an air duster. You should take some caution to avoid static discharge when removing the memory sticks.

On a desktop system, unplug computer. If the power cord has a transformer (wall wart) unplug from the computer. Press the power button 2-3 times to discharge residual electricity

First blow out as much dust as you can before removing the memory. Once motherboard area is clean, then discharge static electricity by touching a finger to metal frame or case before removing memory sticks.  If you do not have the proper surface for working on electronic equipment, then use an anti-static spray around the work area.

Clean the memory contacts with eraser, use air duster, reseat memory. Reseat one at a time if necessary to find the bad one, if any.

2 - remove any adapters, clean the contacts and put back in.

How did this happen?

  • Power surge?
  • Add memory or install new device?
  • BIOS update that went wrong?
  • Windows update that failed?

I had a PowerPoint that day and shut my laptop and when I tried opening it again it just looked like that. I don’t know if there was a windows update as I didn’t agree to the new one at the time but it might have done it on its own. Since my computer can’t be opened by just loosening the screws(I think there is glue attached) I think I have to bring it in for a technician to do what you just recommended. Thank you for your answer it’s greatly appreciated!!
