Hi @Danpleaseaccept

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue.

Here's a step-by-step guide to help you resolve the BitLocker recovery loop and the "Choose an option" menu problem:

BitLocker Drive Encryption:

  • Available on devices running Windows 11 and 10 Pro, Enterprise, or Education editions.
  • Not supported on Windows 11 and Windows 10 Home editions.
  • Must be activated manually, selecting where to store the recovery key.

Device Encryption:

  • A feature-limited version of BitLocker, also called BitLocker Device Encryption or Automatic Device Encryption.
  • Enabled automatically on devices supporting Modern Standby when signed in with a Microsoft account or corporate domain account.
  • The recovery key is uploaded to the Microsoft account or corporate domain automatically.

Using the Recovery Key:

The recovery key may be required after specific events:

  • BIOS update.
  • Microsoft Push Button reset.
  • Disabling Secure Boot or Trusted Platform Module (TPM).
  • Hardware changes (e.g., adding/removing video or network cards).

Backing Up and Retrieving the Recovery Key:

  • During BitLocker activation, manually choose where to store the recovery key.
  • For Device Encryption, the recovery key is automatically backed up to your Microsoft account or corporate domain.

Steps to Retrieve the Recovery Key:

  1. Retrieve from your Microsoft account if Device Encryption is enabled automatically.
  2. Use other recovery options if stored manually or within a corporate system.
