Blue screen of death .. error code "VIDEO_TDR_Failure"

HP Recommended
Example: Pavilion HP Pavilion All-in-One - 24-x037c
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have been having trouble with my Pavillion for several weeks now. I have updated all of the downloads, and my computer has virtually nothing on it, as it is new.

Prior to the downloads, my Pavillion would work ok, but when it would go to sleep I was not able to get it to wake up without rebooting it. After a short period of time, this stopped working and my screen would just go black while starting up. After doing the downloads and cleaning up the registry it worked great for about a week. However, yesterday I was on it and it was running slow. After about 20 minutes the blue screed of death came up (picture included). The code appeared as "VIDEO_TDR_Failure". I am very disappointed as we absolutely love this computer. IMG_6551.JPG

If someone could please help I would really appreciate it.

Thank you,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

What W10 version are you using; 1803 or 1809?

HP has updated chipset drivers and AMD graphics drivers for W10 version 1803 and 1809. HP also has an Intel graphics driver update for W10 version 1803.

You may have to download the following drivers on a different PC if you cannot load windows. Then copy the downloaded files to removable media so you can install the drivers on your PC.

Download and install the latest Chipset driver (sp92871).

Download and install the latest AMD graphics driver (sp91606).

A W10 version 1803 Intel graphics driver is also available (sp84683).

Can you get to Windows now or is it constantly blue screening? If you cannot load Windows please refer to this Microsoft Support document on various ways to boot to the Windows Recovery environment and to advanced startup options and Safe Mode, no networking (Link).

You would follow the steps described for the following situation if you cannot start windows: "from a blank or black screen if your PC will not load windows".

This should get you to the windows Desktop in Safe Mode.

Uninstall Intel and AMD graphics drivers found in Control Panel, Device Manager.

I would disconnect from your network to prevent Microsoft from reinstalling the same problematic drivers you have just uninstalled before you restart the PC.

Restart the PC.

Install the newer Chipset and graphics drivers you downloaded above.

Reconnect to your network.

This should resolve the issue.
