After one of the recent windows 11 updates, I am no longer able to start my OS. When trying to restore my windows installation, I came across the issue that my SSD can no longer be detected.
According to the system diagnostics, ths SSD does still work correctly, which leads me to believe it might be a driver issue, however re-installing the driver also did not appear to help.
As a last resort I wanted to use the HP recovery tool (which resets the laptop to factory settings), however I was also unable to use this as it said it was not supported for this model, but maybe I did something incorrect.
Idially, I can restore the SSD driver, after which I either start or restore windows again. However if that is not possible the HP recovery tool is also fine.

Hi @bengs02,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Based on your report, you're using an HP Pavilion cs-15 with Windows 11, and after a recent update, the system no longer boots. Additionally, your SSD is not detected during Windows recovery, despite diagnostics confirming the drive is functional. Attempts to reinstall the SSD driver have not resolved the issue, and HP Recovery Tool is reported as unsupported for this model.
Recommended HP Steps:
1. Confirm BIOS Sees the SSD
To rule out hardware issues:
- Power on the laptop and tap F10 to enter BIOS Setup
- Under System Information or Storage, check if the SSD is listed
If the SSD is not listed in BIOS, the issue is hardware-related. If it is listed, proceed with software-based steps.
2. Enable Legacy Support / AHCI Mode (if available)
Some SSD detection issues arise from Intel RST or RAID vs AHCI mode conflicts:
- In BIOS → look for:
- Storage Configuration
- SATA Mode or VMD Controller
- If set to RAID or VMD, switch to AHCI
- Save changes and reboot
3. Load Storage Driver Manually (During Windows Install)
If the installer cannot see the SSD, you can manually load the correct driver:
- On another computer, visit HP Support for: HP Pavilion 15-cs0000 Laptop PC Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
- Download Intel Rapid Storage Technology (Intel RST) Driver
- Extract the files to a USB flash drive
- Boot from Windows 11 installation media
- When it asks where to install Windows, click "Load driver"
- Browse to the USB and load the RST/AHCI driver
4. Consider SSD Replacement (if BIOS does not detect the drive)
If after trying the above, your SSD is still not recognized in BIOS or recovery, consider:
- Reseating or replacing the SSD (if under warranty, contact HP Support)
- Using an external USB enclosure to recover data from the SSD on another computer (if it still functions)
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
