This problem has been here since day one. Same issue if restarting, I have to use press the on/off button to force a shutdown
Error message realtekaudiobackgroundprocessclass this app is preventing you from restarting. any advice much appreciated or should I just take it straight back to the dealer?

I generally try to fix something that is not working; but I also get frustrated with something that fails right out of the box -- and have been known to return it, complaining seriously in the process! So, my sympathies in this case, would be with returning it, rather than messing with it.
But if you do want to try to fix it, then run HP Support Assistant and see if it finds a newer HP HD Audio driver and installs that. IF that works, you should be good to go; otherwise, you have an alternate in mind.
