I disagree, but only with this one point.

 

The available BIOS-update states that it must run as an application under Windows 7.

So, disconnect from the Internet, and then install Windows 7 onto a "spare" disk-drive.

There is no need to run Windows Update -- impossible anyway, without an Internet connection.

On another computer, download the BIOS-update onto a USB memory-stick.

Just run the BIOS-updater application, from that memory-stick.

Shutdown, reconnect the SSD, and try again with the two-years-newer BIOS.
