Hi, I would like to update my BIOS firmware for my pc, but need some advice.

Computer Info:
HP Compaq 8200 Elite SFF PC
SKU Number: QN089AW#ABU
Processor Type: Intecl(R) Core(TM) i5-2500 CPU @ 3.30GHz
Processor Speed: 3300Mhz
System BIOS: J01 v2.06
Chassis Serial Number: [Personal Information Removed]
ME Firmware version: 7.1.3.1053
ME Management Mode: AMT

From the above, I think my BIOS firmware is currently v2.06.

Please could someone advise on which version I would required
and where to get it, as obviously do not want to brick
my machine.

Also, from what I have read on other posts, anything later
than v02.28 leads to problems with the restart hanging.
So am I correct in thinking that I should only flash
to v02.28?

If you require any further information please
let me know and I will try and get it for you.

Thanks in advance

Hi:

I have two 8200 Elite CMTs running with BIOS v2.28.

If you have Windows 10 installed in UEFI mode, or Windows 7 installed, the PC does not have the long restart problem with v2.29 or later.

But if you have W10 installed in Legacy mode, then it will.

Most folks that did in-place upgrades to the PC when the free upgrade from W7 to W10 came out, have W10 installed in Legacy mode.

To be safe, I would update the BIOS to v2.28 and then the PC will work fine with W10 installed in either UEFI or Legacy mode.

It is very easy to update the BIOS using the method I describe below:

Get a reliable USB flash drive.  Format it with the FAT 32 file system.

Download and run the v02.28 bios file.  An information page will open.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp71001-71500/sp71294.exe

Follow the instructions for the F10 Flash System ROM method.

Click on the View Contents of the DOS Flash Folder.

Copy the file contents of the DOS flash folder to your USB flash drive.

Restart the PC.  Tap the ESC key to get the menu of options.

Select the F10 system setup option.

On the file tab, select the Flash System ROM command.

Select the USB flash drive.

The PC should now see the BIOS update files on the flash drive.

Follow the on screen instructions to update the BIOS.
