OMEN by HP 25L Gaming Desktop PC GT15-1000i (6J775AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

After shutting down my computer normally using Windows shutdown, often now it will not boot back up using the power button. I've completed the reset by removing the power cable and holding the power button for 15 seconds, but it still will not start. After much frustration and hoping, it will eventually power up with no seeming explanation as to why it wouldn't power on from other attempts.

Hi @jmcrd

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating and intermittent power issue with your OMEN by HP 25L Gaming Desktop.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

Step 1: Check Power Supply Unit (PSU)

  • Ensure the PSU is functioning correctly:
    • Verify that the power cable is securely connected to both the PSU and the wall outlet.
    • Test the PSU with a different power cable or outlet.
    • If possible, use a PSU tester to check for any faults.

Step 2: Inspect the Power Button

  • The power button mechanism might be faulty:
    • Open the case and check the connection between the power button and the motherboard.
    • Ensure the wires are securely attached and not damaged.
    • If the button itself is faulty, consider replacing it.

Step 3: Reset CMOS

  • Resetting the CMOS can help resolve boot issues:
    • Turn off the computer and unplug it.
    • Locate the CMOS battery on the motherboard (usually a coin-cell battery).
    • Remove the battery for about 5 minutes, then reinsert it.
    • Plug the computer back in and try powering it on.

Step 4: Check for Loose Connections

  • Open the case and inspect all internal connections:
    • Ensure the motherboard power connectors are securely attached.
    • Check the RAM, GPU, and other components for proper seating.

Step 5: Update BIOS

  • Outdated BIOS firmware can cause boot issues:
    • Visit the HP Support page for your model and download the latest BIOS update.
    • Follow the instructions carefully to update the BIOS.

Step 6: Run HP Diagnostics

  • Use the built-in HP Diagnostics tool to check for hardware issues:
    • Turn off the computer.
    • Press the power button and immediately press Esc repeatedly.
    • Select System Diagnostics and run the tests.

Step 7: Test with Minimal Components

  • Disconnect all non-essential components (e.g., additional drives, peripherals) and try booting with just the motherboard, CPU, RAM, and PSU.
