HP - Pavilion 24-r100na
Microsoft Windows 11

PC accidentally turned of without shutting down.  When powered back up received the error;

"Boot Device not found

Please install an operating system on your hard disk"

I have followed advice HP Consumer Desktop PCs - Boot Device Not Found (3F0) or Automatic Repair Errors | HP® Customer Supp... but nothing is working.  Not sure where to go from here.  Didn't create a backup of system before this happened.

Please help.  This is a work computer and I urgently need it back up and running.

@Emalem -- can you start-up your computer from a Windows 10 Installation DVD (or USB memory-stick) ?

If so, when prompted to click "Install", instead click "Repair", to see if the file-system on your disk-drive can be "repaired".

If not "repairable", you need to purchase a new disk-drive, and install Windows onto it.

Then, connect the current disk-drive as a "secondary" disk-drive, to see if you can read any of your Personal Files from it, and copy the files/folders onto the new disk-drive.

Does your "work" employer have an I.T. Department that can help you recover?

Hi, thanks for this. I have gone through the repair process with a USB and am now getting the error message that the recovery attempt has failed. When I open the details it says that there is a critical error with 3 possible causes and places to check but I don't know what to do with that information.

My spider-senses and X-ray vision are not working today. I cannot determine that information.   😞

Please post that information here, so that we can try to help you.

hi

@Emalem

If you attempt, or have attempted to reinstall windows, you risk erasing all your personal data.
if it's not too late, and you haven't already made backups, you should try
it may be complicated, or impossible now
there are several methods, but disassembling an all in one is not always easy
see maybe the live cd option

it can be a material problem!
You can try several things in order to try to recover your data, I give some explanations here, but in French!

que faire en cas d' erreur / échec dst du disque dur - HP Support Community - 7338574

You can try a bootable cd / dvd type live cd (linux)

https://www.online-tech-tips.com/computer-tips/how-to-retrieve-windows-files-using-a-linux-live-cd/

you can try removing the hard drive, in order to connect it to another computer internally, or with a usb adapter!

If your disk is not completely out of order, this gives you a small chance

Apologies, I was away from the PC and wasn't clear. When looking at the details I was unsure if I could have dealt with the issues or should address them to HP,  as stated when I chose to save the details.

However, I was recommended to try the recovery again from the USB in case there was a glitch but now I'm just looping. It runs the repair and then asks if I was given an additional USB from HP. As I haven't I select 'skip' and it restarts back to asking if I want to factory reset and again and so forth.
