HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop 690-0020

Hello all,

I've recently been having an issue with my desktop where the computer will freeze randomly and without much warning.  I'll have it open and if I leave it idle for about 5 minutes or so, the computer will lock up.  The only ways I've found to avoid the situation are to CTRL+ALT+DEL the screen beforehand, OR, if it actually freezes, I'll have to hard restart the computer.  I've performed a number of suggested troubleshooting tips and none of them have helped.

I've done the C drive error checking, SFC /SCANNOW in Command Prompt, I've installed Windows 10 again (without deleting my data) and none of it has worked.  One last thing I read was that I may need more RAM (I'm currently at 16GB and will max out at 32GB soon) but that's the last suggestion that I've seen that I haven't tried yet.

If anyone has any other suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thank you in advance!

Hi @stotten70

Install the BIOS update at this Link.

Don't shut down the PC during this update. Be patient. A premature shutdown or loss of power will corrupt the BIOS.

This should fix the problem.
