I am kind of stuck here now since the machine is out of warranty.

I have no support options other than email or forums?

Does HP have offical email or ticketing options that do NOT require $?

I am OK with not having phone support but I cannot justify the cost of paying for support on this issue since the problem was CREATED BY HP.  I need an official channel that is no cost please.

How many computers do you have?

Is any one of them still "in-warranty" ?

Did your boss make the decision to not purchase an "extended" warranty?

After the warranty has expired, HP Support is still available, at a fee.

Who is to say that HP won't issue a refund to your boss, after HP discovers that they (allegedly) created the problem?

You "need" or you "want" ? From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: There ain't no such thing as a free lunch

Ask your boss to amortize the cost of one "paid" HP Support case over the number of computers that he owns.

A previous reply I made a few days ago got deleted by a moderator, presumably because I entered case-specific information.

Anyway, HP Support gave me the following instruction:

Since the unit can able to boot up with original configuration, which means the F.34 BIOS is workable,
Then install 2nd RAM, boot up again to make sure the issue is not come with RAM;
Shutdown PC and install SSD, press F9 to choose the boot up device as original HDD;
use SSD to replace original HDD but OS image not be copied to SSD appropriately.

All of the above suggestions I already tried to no avail.

This was as far as HP could help me according to the rep I spoke, this case was considered closed.

As some of you also concluded, this is an issue which HP caused themselves by their software, either deliberately or unintentionally. I also encountered this exact same problem on another HP, new out of the box, the HP 24-E040ND;
this unit already had a bios (didn't note which one) installed which worked perfectly with the installed harddisk but refused to work with an ssd. To be clear, this is NOT an issue o the SSD I used; I also tried other SSD's (Samsung 860 EVO, Crucial MX300 275GB) with which also caused the computer to hang. It does not matter if there's an OS present or not.

HP should be able to solve this problem by engineering a new BIOS as the SSD worked perfectly before. HP was a brand which I sell with much enthousiasm. If they refuse to do so I will be more than wary recommending HP to my customers anymore and with good reason.

Thats what Im thinking only new BIOS update will fix this as this is the only reason why our SSD are not booting.

I reinstalled the OEM 2TB slow is you know what drive on my HP 510-p024 to at least be able to use this machine while we wait for a BIOS update to allow use of SSD drives again. Still no news from HP. My ticket with HP got closed out without a resolution. three weeks now for me. proably a lot longer for others. no new BIOS posted, can't downgrade the exsisting BIOS either. I am SOL, but at least I am not alone. Hoping for a class action lawsuit now.

This new computer comes with the HP Warranty.  Contact HP, and open a support claim.

Please see the thread in this forum called

Pavilion 510-p020 won't POST or boot with BIOS 81B4 F.37 and Samsung or Crucial SSD

for more about this and that a Kingston A400 SSD worked for me.

Interesting...Thanks for sharing.

Out of sheer interest: Does anybody (with more time on his hands that I have) know why that would be the case, i.e. why older / different brand SSD would work fine, but newer would not?
