HP elitedesk 800 g3 enable legacy boot

Hi All,

i have HP elitedesk 800 g3 and when ever i enable the legacy boot on the bios settings , it returns back to be disabled i have tried every thing disable what ever security is there, and then i save and reboot tyoe on the change 4 digit code and then i find it returned back to be disabled.

i even upgraded the bios version  from 2.04 to 2.11 didn't work also

how can i enable the legacy boot guys , help please.

Hi

W10 wants/needs Secure Boot, so if you go for Legacy Boot then your OS and HDD may very well dis-appear or give an error that there is no Boot/Disk available.

Do you see anything like mine?

You may be able to re-sequence the Boot Order in Secure Boot to enable a DVD/USB to boot first.

OR disable Secure Boot.

So what  are you trying/hoping to achieve?

i want to take an image for the operating system with all SW installed so i can apply it on other PC.

The picture you posted wont be viewable until it's been approved.

So you want to clone the existing HDD and make a clone onto another HDD

OR

You want to clone the C: and clone that onto another disk partition?

Because a clone of the C: wont have the boot manager etc included, a clone of the HDD will have, but certain things like the Licence key wont be transferable.

So it can be done with potential pitfalls.

So I suggest you use Belarc Advisor and print out all the info you can.

You dont mention the OS involved.  Just as an aside....

Expand/Extract/Burn the iso Image onto a DVD/USB as needed.
Microsoft’s Creator Tool will make the required DVD or USB.

Even though it has NO actual HP software/drivers included, you may be able to
XCOPY the C:\Users\* area onto a ‘large’ USB stick, via the Command Prompt.

You’ll need to try various drive letters; D:..-..Z: until it’s matched - could be G; mine’s S:

C:\>XCOPY C:\Users\* S:\ /e /i /h (then files like those 3 listed below get copied over)

C:\Users\desktop.ini
C:\Users\All Users\agent.1509128044.bdinstall.bin

Then you can try System Recovery Options / Advanced Options shown in the screenshots.

NB:- W7 Try running a Startup Repair more than once for a full fix.
NB: - W10 Begin with the Automatic Repair, then Startup Settings etc.

From either the C:\ or the X:\ prompt try the following

cd boot
bootrec /FixMBR
bootrec /FixBoot
bootrec /RebuildBCD

If the above FAILS then please try:-

The best thing I know about cloning is a very ugly looking program called 'clonezilla'

yes i want to clone the HDD to an image so i can put it on the network and restore the image back to the new pc's.

the image program that i will use is Acronis, so i have the option of booting from CD or flash memory.

but both are legacy boot.

how can we enable this feature?!

Hi

Acronis is not Legacy boot, it's a program running on an OS.

So you want to install over a network to a machine that doesn't work and cannot possibly host a recovery program?

So next you have a usb or dvd that is legacy boot, that you want to use. 

So you make sure all the machines have the Legacy Boot option and set the BIOS accordingly.

My HP is tolerant of such behaviour, my Acer isn't. 

So I have less than no chance of telling you how to set a Legacy BIOS on machines I dont know with a BIOS I dont know.

thank you very much for your time and patients , i found out what is the problem in another case over the hp community.

turns out that:

to enable the legacy boot anddisable the secure boot you need to write the 4 digit code, when the PC or laptop reboots you need to write the code from the keyboad numbers not the left side keypad.

that was the main problem that consumed alot of time to discover over the intenet and the HP community but now it's done :).

I agree that Acronis is a program that does run under Windows.

Also, with the Acronis software, one can create a bootable CD-R or USB memory-stick.

Boot from it, to run (under a stripped-down Linux-variant) 

a "disk-cloning" program that will copy all the partitions from one disk-drive to another disk-drive.

But, that may not be what you want, if you want to use your network to copy an "image" from a server onto multiple client computers.

I found  a solution that worked for me atleast.

After cloning I loaded the chipset drivers for the computer same way as we load the storage controller drivers.

Mouse and keyboard worked fine afterwards.
