I have a refurbished Hp desktop from BTO. Had an upgrade done to be able to play call of duty. Upon boot up a screen pops up with TPM Ppi press f1 or f2.  Researching the internet I’ve tried every reset listed on the websites. Still no luck getting to reset or able to get into bios screen. Keyboard is wired but won’t let me select f1 or f2. Can’t press esc or f10 either. Seen option to use usb to reboot with a download from hp but desktop won’t read usb to even update or reinstall. I just purchased this desktop a little less than a year ago. I use this desktop for work and I’m at a loss and can’t find any other option. Please help

Hi @Thevenomizedone,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that your system is likely stopping at a TPM Physical Presence Interface (PPI) prompt. HP BIOS can require confirmation, such as F1 to boot for TPM actions, and TPM-related settings can also block normal startup if the keyboard is not being accepted at POST. HP also notes that USB boot/input can fail if USB is disabled/hidden in Computer Setup or if removable media boot is disabled.

What HP documentation suggests

1) TPM/PPI prompt behavior

HP BIOS includes a TPM Activation Policy with options such as:

  • F1 to boot

  • Allow user to reject

  • No prompts

This confirms the screen you are seeing is an HP BIOS TPM confirmation screen.

2) If the keyboard does not work at startup

HP says startup keys like F10 and Esc must be pressed during POST to enter Computer Setup. If the system is not accepting them, that can prevent access to BIOS.

3) If USB recovery or USB boot is not working

HP documentation says:

  • USB ports can be hidden/disabled in Computer Setup

  • Removable Media Boot can be disabled

  • USB devices may not be recognized if not fully inserted before startup

Practical HP-aligned steps to try

  1. Power off the desktop completely.

  2. Move the wired keyboard to a different rear USB port (preferably a basic USB 2.0 rear port if available, not front panel).

  3. Connect only:
    • monitor
    • wired keyboard
    • power
    • no other USB devices

  4. Turn the PC on and repeatedly press F10 immediately at power-on. Also try Esc.

  5. If you still land on the TPM/PPI screen and keys do not respond, try:

    • another basic wired USB keyboard

    • if the system has a PS/2 keyboard port, use a PS/2 keyboard if possible

  6. If you can enter BIOS, check:

    • TPM Device = available/enabled as needed

    • TPM Activation Policy

    • USB ports enabled

    • Removable Media Boot enabled

  7. If USB recovery is still not detected, HP notes the boot order and removable media settings must allow USB boot.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.
