Bought this unit used with no HDD. I installed a western digital 500GB HDD. I went to power it up and all I get is a 5 beep or 5 red flashes. This cycle continues and never blinks white just 5 red blinks forever. I disconnected the new HDD and replaced all the ram. I installed a new video card but after all that it still has a 5 red blink code nothing else. The blink chart from HP does not have any scenario that covers this sequence. all codes have a white light that comes on after 5 blinks of red.  My unit just keeps on with the 5 red blinks and never does anything else. I noticed that when I power the unit up the fans don't come on until the unit has been on for a while. (This may be normal for this unit as this is My first one of these) The bottom line is that it never does anything else.

Hi:

Under the old beep code system, 5 beeps, red flashing LED is a memory problem of some kind.

See the troubleshooting guide at the link below, Appendix A, page 58 for how to troubleshoot the old 5-beep code error.
