Hello! When I open my desktop, I get the phrase “Secure boot violation. Invalid signature detected. Check Secure Boot Policy in Setup.” I tried to press F10 to get to the menu but I am not really understanding it. Please help!

I hear that the message “Secure Boot Violation. Invalid signature detected. Check Secure Boot Policy in Setup.” means Secure Boot failed to authenticate a boot component.
What to try on your HP desktop:
If this started after adding new hardware, especially a video card, HP recommends:
- Turn off the computer.
- Remove the new hardware and reinstall the original component.
- Enable Legacy Support / disable Secure Boot using the BIOS steps for HP desktops.
- Turn off the PC again.
- Reinstall the new component and restart.
HP desktop BIOS steps:
On HP desktop computers, HP says to:
- Turn on the PC and enter the BIOS/Startup Menu.
- Use the arrow keys to select Security > Secure Boot Configuration.
- When the message appears, press F10.
- To disable Secure Boot, select:
- Secure Boot = Disable
- Legacy Support = Enable
- Secure Boot = Disable
- Press F10 to accept.
- Press F10 again, then press Enter twice to restart.
- If prompted with the Operating System Boot Mode Change message, type the four-digit code shown, then press Enter.

Glad to hear it worked! Disabling Secure Boot can reduce protection, since it prevents untrusted software from loading at startup. Without it, the system may be more exposed to certain attacks. Many users disable it temporarily for compatibility, but we recommend re‑enabling it once changes are complete and keeping software updates current.
