Hi,
I am trying to install Linux (tried both 22.04.5 LTS and 24.04 LTS) on my Omen with a bootable USB but it hangs on "Booting a command list". I have tried with BalenaEtcher and Rufus (DD mode) but both failed.

This seems to be a common issue as there is another open thread without a clear solution.
I have already updated to the latest BIOS version (F.14) and disabled Secure Boot as suggested in the other thread, which also didn't solve the issue

I have also tried several ports for the USB (including the ones in the back panel) and all fail the same way
Also editing the boot command by replacing 'quiet splash' with

nomodeset nouveau.modeset=0

didn't help

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hi @scharalambous,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I’m sorry you’re going through this; I understand the concern and don’t worry I’ll help you with this.

Just to set expectations clearly: Linux installation issues unfortunately fall outside the official scope of HP support

That said, we can still help you narrow down possible causes with some general troubleshooting steps :

  •  System details: Please share your exact HP Omen model and hardware specs (CPU, GPU, storage type).
  •  BIOS settings: Double‑check if Fast Boot or Legacy Boot/CSM options are enabled/disabled these can affect Linux boot.
  • ISO verification: Confirm the SHA256 checksum of the Ubuntu ISO before flashing, to rule out corruption.
  •  Boot mode: Are you booting in UEFI or Legacy mode? Linux installers can behave differently depending on this.
  •  Graphics card: If you’re using NVIDIA, sometimes additional kernel parameters beyond nomodeset are required.
  • Peripherals: Disconnect any non‑essential USB devices or external drives during installation to avoid conflicts.

Linux installation issues unfortunately fall outside the official scope of HP support, we want to make sure you have the right information to continue troubleshooting.

I hope this helps.
