Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Everyday, at random times, my PC locks up and shows a series of colorful lines, then goes to black. It had been doing this since March, and I have tried everything to fix it. I ran a virus check: clear. I didn't make any modification on the OS side, (as far as I'm concerned). I updated my drivers: nothing. It was only after turning off transparency that the crashes didn't occur so often. I upgraded my ram to 16gb (https://www.amazon.com/CORSAIR-Vengeance-2400MHz-PC4-19200-Memory/dp/B07B4FRMGV/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&...)(DDR4 8gb 2400mhz), but I'm not sure if this contributed to the crashing, as it crashed without it. I do remember updating my BIOS a while back, but not sure if that has anything to do with this. I even went as far as to contact HP support, but no contact option showed up once I entered my serial number (possibly because my warranty is expired). What can I do about this?

Due to a recent BIOS update install, I think my issues with graphics have been fixed! It seems to be way more stable now. Thanks for your help anyway.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • When was the last time it worked without these issues?
  • Have you updated Graphics and Chipset drivers?
  • Have you checked the display on an external monitor?

Let’s try these steps to resolve the problem:

I recommend you attempt to access the BIOS screen by tapping on F10 while the computer is restarting,

If the issue persists in the BIOS screen which is outside windows, it would confirm a hardware failure.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

It worked fine up until about March, when it would periodically crash. In the following months it increased the crashing. I have updated my drivers to AMD's recommended drivers (not the optional ones). The display works fine as it still functions after the PC goes black. Some days, I don't get any crashes, but on others, it keeps crashing one after the other, weirdly after opening the start menu or being in a video conferencing call (like Zoom).

Thank you for posting back.

I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. I would suggest performing system factory reset will put the computer back to the original factory settings in this way all corrupted and outdated software will be removed.

While doing the recovery there is an option to back up your personal files. If you have not previously done one now is a good time.

Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows )You can also contact HP support for assistance. They can remotely access your system to help alleviate difficulties: www.hp.com/contacthp/

The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

I had reset my PC (with my files), just a few months ago, around the same time it started to crash. I don't think its anything that I have installed that is causing issues. I also got a blue screen when I was screen recording something from Radeon Relive.

When I clicked on the hyperlink you sent, it went to a 404 page. When I typed in my serial number into HP's support options, it gave me two options: HP community and a service center locator. Since its out of warranty, any work on it would have to be paid out of pocket then, right?
