HP Pavilion All-in-One - 27-xa0029c
Microsoft Windows 11

Awhile back, my AIO was telling me my hard drive was not in good shape, my fault, I never got it fixed right away and right after windows stopped booting and it was telling me that I had a hard disk error and to go to system diagnostics(and still is).  Now the only thing I can get to is system diagnostic, where every test tells me, it's all good except I can't find anywhere to test the hard drive!  I've tried holding the power button down for 25 seconds and still it boots to a temp navy blue backlit screen that eventually boots to the blue screen that tell me

                                 HARD DRIVE ERROR

PLEASE RUN THE HARD DRIVE TEST IN YOUR SYSTEM DIAGNOSTICS

                                 HARD DISK 3(3F3)

                                 F2 SYSTEM DIAGNOSTICS

I phoned support and they asked for 500 dollars to give me any kind of diagnostics...this has been a lame experience switching PCs...And it's not to far out of warranty too

Hi @BrucieB,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Pavilion All-in-One (27-xa0029c) is facing a critical hard drive failure. The "HARD DISK 3(3F3)" error indicates that the system is detecting issues with the hard drive, likely causing Windows not to boot.

Here's what you can try to diagnose and potentially recover from this issue:

1. Run the Hard Drive Test in System Diagnostics: HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures

  • Since you're stuck in the diagnostic screen, you may need to locate the hard drive test option specifically:
    • Restart your computer and press F2 repeatedly as soon as the HP logo appears.
    • In the System Diagnostics menu, look for "Component Tests" or "Hard Drive Test".
    • Run the Short and Long DST (Drive Self-Test) tests. These tests should give you more specific information about the state of your hard drive.

2. Boot from a USB or Recovery Media:

  • If the hard drive diagnostics show that the drive is failing, the next step is data recovery or repair:
    • If you have a Windows 11 recovery USB or can create one on another computer, use it to attempt repairs:
      1. Create a Windows 11 installation media from Microsoft's website.
      2. Boot from the USB by pressing F9 on startup and selecting the USB drive.
      3. From the setup screen, choose Repair your computer and then select Startup Repair or Command Prompt for more advanced options.

3. Check for Hard Drive Replacement:

  • If the diagnostics confirm a failing hard drive, you may need to replace it. You can:
    • Purchase a replacement drive (consider an SSD for faster performance).
    • Install Windows 11 on the new drive using the USB recovery media.

4. Data Recovery:

  • If there is important data on the drive, try connecting it to another PC via a SATA-to-USB adapter to recover files before replacing it.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
