Another interesting thing happened: on startup I pressed CTRL + P when it offered F9 or F10 or F12, then the following text appeared in the right bottom:  MEBx. That's all, it froze there again! But the keyboard is certainly working.

Hello,

I am having the same problem and i want to add that when i tried keeping ESC pressed something did happen: the MoBo started beeping loudly until i released it. Still, no other effect seems to have taken place as the PC still stops responding to anything once it reaches the 2048 MB total RAM count.

Loriswave - The procedure is to tapping ESC, not keeping ESC pressed.  The noise heard when holding the key is the keyboard buffer screaming because the key was held down continuously.

Try doing the tapping about once every second instead of holding it down.

Hello again. Since I am not able to get the Mobo to work it would be nice to be able to identify the motherboard. Is there a way to do this without software? I don't see any id on the mobo
