Hi @Messi4,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Your HP laptop is displaying the "Install an operating system on your hard disk" message because it is not detecting a bootable OS. This can happen due to several reasons.

Check BIOS Settings

  • Restart your laptop and press F10 (or Esc > F10) to enter the BIOS.
  • Go to Boot Options and check if your hard drive is detected.
  • Ensure the correct boot order (set the internal SSD/HDD as the first boot device).

Check If the Hard Drive Is Recognized

  • If the hard drive is not detected in the BIOS, it may be disconnected or faulty.
  • If you recently installed a new SSD/HDD, ensure it is properly connected.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Turn off your laptop and turn it back on while pressing F2 repeatedly.
  • Run System Diagnostics to check for hard drive issues.

Check for Corrupted Boot Sector

  • If the drive is detected but still won't boot, you may need to repair Windows:
    1. Create a Windows installation USB using another computer and the Windows Media Creation Tool.
    2. Boot from the USB (press F9 to access the boot menu).
    3. Select Repair your computer > Troubleshoot > Startup Repair.

Reinstall Windows

  • If nothing works, you may need to reinstall Windows.
  • Boot from a Windows USB installer and follow the on-screen steps.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
