Ok, have found something new....

HP Recommended

I have discovered something which may well be important.

The original RAM is rated at 1.35V

Both sets of the new sticks are at 1.5V

From what I have read, this usually doesn't make a difference, BUT sometimes it does.

Can anyone confirm this may be the issue?

Information from HP website about the 550-153na

RAM upgrade information

Dual channel memory architecture

Two 240-pin DDR3 DIMM sockets

Supports the following:

PC3-12800 (DDR3-1600)

PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333)

But when you read the info about the motherboard itself, the Odense....

Memory upgrade information

  • Dual channel memory architecture
  • Two 240-pin DDR3L DIMM sockets
  • Supports the following:
    • PC3L-12800 (DDR3L-1600)
    • PC3L-10600 (DDR3L-1333)
  • So thanks for that HP, if I was given the correct information to begin with then I wouldn't have wasted the best part of two weeks banging my head against the wall.

Purchased some DDR3L, installed and running fine.

So, information on HP site is incorrect.

Correct specs are buried away in the Odense motherboard section.
