I woke up realized that I didn't turn off my laptop last night and it was extra hot. Pressed the turn on button nothing! Thought it was dead put it on the charger, screen came on it was at 60%. Then the only problem was the touchpad wasn't working, which normally happens sometimes and all I have to do is just restart or shut down. Did it then walked away came back touch pad still wasn't working did it again now the laptop isn't even turning on just blinking lights on the side, or the light will just show when im holding onto the power button. Did the power drain method and its still not working. Which is holding the power button down for 30 - 60s then plugging in the charger then turn it on. Haven't been working, even left the laptop be until I came back and still not working

Hi  @Binni3

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I hear your concern that your laptop suddenly is not able to power on after overheating.

Could you kindly share the exact model number of your HP laptop ?

Could you confirm the below details as well :

When you press the power button, do you hear the fan spin or any internal noise, or is it completely silent?

Are the caps lock/num lock lights blinking in a pattern (like 2 blinks, pause, repeat)?

Below are few steps you can try :

Hard reset: Disconnect the charger

Hold the power button for 30–60 seconds.

Reconnect only the charger

Try powering on.

Check LED blink codes: laptop often use blinking lights to indicate hardware issues . Count the blinks and let me know the pattern.

BIOS recovery: Kindly hold the  Windows key + B while pressing the power button. If the BIOS was corrupted during overheating, this may help.

If none of these steps bring the laptop back, we may need to check whether the motherboard or power circuitry has an issue .

I hope this helps.

Night, Deep

I tried the power drain again, I just feel like I'm doing the method wrong somehow cause I'm holding down the power button for 30 - 60 secs and then the lights are still blinking even when I do it for the 2nd time and go over 1 minute still doesn't work. Did the BIOS method doesn't work either. But to answer the questions you asked ; the model is Model 14-cf2723wm, I do hear the fan and other noises or maybe its just the fan itself. The cap/num locks are not blinking but the icons' light at the side are both blinking 2 at a time then one light once then turns off repeat and then turns off. Then if I hold on to the power button the light on the side stays on as long as I hold. I have a repair man near me but if I go he doesn't know how to lock back and glue laptops properly if there is a motherboard issue. So let me know if I can fix my self, go to the repair man or the nearest Hp store to me.

Hi @Binni3,

Thanks for your response and Based on the blinking light pattern and the fact that the power drain and BIOS reset methods haven’t resolved the issue, this points to a hardware fault most likely with the motherboard, power circuitry, or a related component failure.

At this stage,Attempting to repair or glue components without proper tools can cause permanent damage. The best course of action is to take your HP 14‑cf2723wm to an authorized HP service center.  Our certified technicians can provide a thorough diagnosis and offer the best solutions to address the issue.
