I keep getting email about this thread and the problem was solved by reeplacing the bad harddrive and removing the faulty Memory Stick.

RV-Kitty2, I suspect that everyone posting here is simply a PC owner like you, and they do not work for HP, and that all the information provided is, is provided out of the kindness of their hearts.

My desktop computer is only 13 months old and is stuck on the HP screen. Unplugging it for 2 hours did nothing. There was no sign of it even trying to boot up. This started during a Windows update. I really hope the hard drive did not go already. If so, I am very disappointd and it will be the last HP product I buy!!

I had the same problem. I thought it was dust and although the CPU area had dust around it I found the problem was a bad memory module. I took it out and the PC booted up with no problem. I thought it could be a bad HDD but my external HDD enclosure ran it no problem. I also thought it could be that my HDD has dual OS's but nope. It was just a bad memory stick. Hope this helps!

Here's what I did: After diconnecting everything from the tower, I opened it up and disconnected everything from the power supply. Then, I help the power button down for 20-30 seconds three times. This, from what I can gather, drains any excess power stored in the desktop. I, then, attatched all wires back to power source, closed the tower and reconnected everything back to tower. Turn it on and it should work.

Good luck all and rock on!
