HP All-in-One 27 Desktop PC 27-cb0000a (3B5K5AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My HP All-in-One (Windows 11, Version 24H2) is experiencing random freezes, restarts, and blue screen errors (“Boot Device Not Found”), along with unstable peripheral connections. This prevents me from working remotely.

Troubleshooting Already Performed:

  • HP Hardware Diagnostics – Extensive Storage Test: all tests passed multiple times.
  • Windows repair via Recovery USB & System Restore.
  • BIOS/UEFI boot order verified; Secure Boot enabled.
  • Installed all Windows Updates & Cumulative Updates.
  • Driver updates via HP Support Assistant (HP Connection Optimizer, Realtek Bluetooth/WLAN drivers, AMD chipset drivers).
  • System file & disk integrity checks (SFC, DISM, CHKDSK).
  • Safe Mode verification & administrator command prompt fixes.
  • Reattached peripherals one at a time; restarted after major devices.

After trying EVERYTHING to fix my computer, thinking that it was a hard drive, motherboard, or software conflict, I believe I found the solution. It seems that the power strip that my computer was plugged into was faulty and was not protecting my computer against power surges/fluctuations in the way that it was supposed to. Since switching to a "better" power strip, I have not had any issues.

Hi @SKL5,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP All-in-One running Windows 11 is experiencing random freezes, restarts, blue screens (“Boot Device Not Found”), and unstable peripheral connections despite extensive troubleshooting. Let’s go through a few more advanced steps to isolate and resolve the issue.

Check Event Viewer for Errors

Press Windows + X → Event Viewer → Windows Logs → System.

Look for Critical or Error events around the time of crashes or blue screens.

Note the Event ID and Source; these can help identify hardware or driver causes.

Run Memory Diagnostics

Press Windows + R, type mdsched.exe, and press Enter.

Choose Restart now and check for problems.

Let the memory test complete to rule out faulty RAM causing crashes or boot errors.

Inspect Storage Devices

Even though the HP Storage Test passed, physically check:

SSD/HDD cables are securely connected.

No visible damage on drives.

If possible, temporarily disconnect secondary drives and boot with only the primary drive connected.

Reset BIOS/UEFI to Defaults

Restart the PC → press Esc/F10 to enter BIOS.

Choose Load Setup Defaults / Reset BIOS.

Save changes and reboot.

This can resolve unstable hardware settings affecting boot or device recognition.

Check Power Settings & PSU Stability

Unstable peripherals and random restarts can be caused by inconsistent power delivery.

Use a different wall outlet or remove surge protectors temporarily.

Ensure the internal power supply or adapter is not faulty.

Update or Reflash BIOS

Even if current BIOS seems fine, downloading the latest BIOS from HP’s site and applying it can resolve boot device and peripheral instability.

Follow HP’s instructions carefully to avoid bricking the system.

Disconnect Non-Essential Peripherals During Boot

Disconnect USB hubs, external drives, and other non-critical peripherals.

Boot with only keyboard, mouse, and display connected to rule out device conflicts.

I hope this helps.
