Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello Everyone,

Whenever I turn my computer on I receive the message "Reboot and Select Proper Boot Device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key"

I checked the hardware diagonistics and these were the results:

CPU test - Passed

Hard Drive: Connection Test - Failed   Error Code:BIOHD1

Memory - Passed

I do not think that the issue is a faulty connection. My reason for believing so is because I think I had a virus on my computer ( I was not able to confirm it) that I was trying to remove the last time I was able to use the computer. Then I shut the computer off to restart it, but unfortunately, that is when I received this error message.

I have had this problem once before (roughly 3 years ago) and I was not able to fix it, so I just stopped using the PC. Then one day my dad turned on the computer (several months later) and it all of a sudden worked.

Does anyone know what this problem is? How can I fix it?

All help is greatly appreciated! Thank you very much for your time and effort!!

 Additional Info:

This was originally a windows 7 PC, but I upgraded it to windows 10, which is the current OS.

Product : HP p6620f

I managed to boot my PC again.

I unplugged all the connections, and left it like that for about 24 hours. Then I plugged everything back in and all of a sudden the PC worked again. I do not know if this will last, but as of right now it is working.

I will write another post if anything changes.

Hi there @Michael75,

May the Forums be with you!  It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel.  I understand that you are seeing a BIOHD1 error when you start up your computer.  I am happy to help with this.

Please see the following: HP Desktop PCs - Hard Drive Failure Errors: Imminent Failure, Smart, BIOHD, HD535, etc

Also there are some suggestions by forum experts @TheOldMan and @erico in this forum post that you may find of help: BIOHD1 AND BIOHD2 ERROR.

Please let me know whether that works for you, and if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

It is nice to hear that, but I would suggest that to protect yourself, you copy any important data, files, photos, videos, etc to an external device. You could also use: HP PCs - Creating and Using a Microsoft Recovery USB Drive (Windows 10). That way, you will be prepared if the worst happens.
