So, when I try to start my windows, an error box pop up, which says:

"Restore7.exe - Application error. The instruction at 0x77892591 referenced memory at 0x00008084. The memory could not be read."

when clicking OK, computer starts over and get stuck to that same page. I can't go to HP recovery by pressing F11. Recovery CD won't work either. Operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium

can someone please help me. can this problem be solved by buying new harddrive ?

How are the recovery discs not working? If you put the first disc in the optical drive and press any key shortly after turing on your computer, you should boot the recovery menu so that you can completely recover your computer.

Also, this might have something to do with Windows Product Activation??? If you've added any internal hardware devices, remove them and make sure you unplug all USB devices. Only have the mouse, keyboard and monitor connected when you attmpt to do a recovery.

Even if I put the recovery disc inside, it still loads to that error screen, even if I've chochen primary boot device as CD

and I don't have anything extra plugged to PC, only keyboard,mouse & monitor

I don't know about product activation, it was ready-to-buy-computer from store, so Vista was already installed there-

does someone know, what exactly is causing this error ?

//EDIT

okay, I tried once more with the CD, and kept pressin 'enter' while it was starting up, and I made it to the recovery manager.

now let's see if it'll work

//EDIT2

yes, my comp is working again (hoping it will work tomorrow too)

Good to hear it. I've been sitting here racking my brain as to what could have caused it. The only thing I can think of is that something (a virus?) corrupted or destroyed the restore7.exe file.

Hi, I was reading this thread and would like any help you can provide.  I am having the same problem.  HP Pavilion dv9235nr - when I insert the Recovery Disc 1 (of 2) that I created initially when I purchased the machine, it loads to this error.  What can I do to resolve this?

Hi,

I have also been experiencing this problem - same error with the Restore7.exe when trying to restore the OS to factory state - HP dv9230us.  I've tried the Restore DVD (which I created after I purchased), F11, F5, and everything else I can think of.

I can boot into safe mode using F8 (remarkably), but not sure where to go at that point to restore the system.  "Repair the computer" doesn't produce any positive results.

Ran Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool (from the restore options presented after pressing F8 to show boot options) and then boot into safe mode.

I've tried to reinstall windows using the boot disk that I just bought and I get this error with Restor7.exe.

"Instruction at 0x77241ad5 referenced memory at 0xead0d9ee. The memory could not be read."  How do I get around this and get my computer working again. I can only boot in safemode right now and have no access to restoring my computer from my hard drive or newly purchased disk.

Please help...

I'm having the same issue - just received recovery cd's and attempting to restore system to factory condition to no avail. : (

Any help?  Tried pressing enter repeatedly and boot froze on 'Initializing Intel (R) Boot Agent FE v4.1.18 PXE 2.1 Build 084 (WFM 2.0)

Starts to boot from cd "windows is loading files..."  then "Restore7.exe - Application Error' The instruction at 0x77822086 referenced memory at 0x8895feb3.  The memory could not be read.  Click on OK to terminate the program."

Continual loop... shutdown, reboot, click ok to terminate!  Argghh
