I am trying to factory reset my PC but it's stuck at 78% for 5 hours and still 78%. How should I solve this problem?

Hi @Sihyun,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the Factory Reset Stuck Issue!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Wait a Little Longer:

  • Sometimes, the reset process takes longer depending on the amount of data or the condition of your system. Although you've already waited 5 hours, occasionally waiting a bit more can help.

Force Restart:

  • Press and hold the power button for about 10-15 seconds until the laptop powers off.
  • Wait a few moments, then turn your laptop back on.

Boot into Safe Mode:

  • When restarting, repeatedly press the F8 key (or Shift + F8) to enter Safe Mode. You might be able to access recovery options from here.

Use Windows Recovery Environment:

  • If the system restarts, on boot immediately press F11 or another recovery key specified by HP to enter the Windows Recovery Environment.
  • Choose "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced Options" > "Startup Repair" to fix any startup-related issues.
  • Alternatively, you could try another reset from here without requiring completion of the stuck process.

Verify Recovery Drive Health:

  • If possible, access BIOS settings to verify hardware conditions. Sometimes a faulty hard drive can prevent the reset process from completing.
  • Look for storage diagnostics in BIOS to rule out hardware failures.

Use a Windows Installation Media:

  • Create a Windows 11 installation media using the Microsoft website.
  • Boot the laptop with the USB drive and attempt either a fresh install or another reset from the installation media.

I hope this helps.
