HP Pavilion 500 PC Series

Product number J4W40AA#ABA

Model number 500-424

A few years ago my HP Pavilion was running slow so I decided to do a clean wipe. During the process we had a power outage so it got turned off. I couldn’t get it to work after that so I just put it away and never messed with it. Tonight I decided to get it out and try to figure out what is wrong with it in hopes I can get it running again. Every time I try to turn it on I get an error that says “The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click ‘OK’ to restart the computer, and then restart the installation..” When I click OK and it restarts it comes up with the same exact message every time. I have tried countless troubleshooting tips suggested by the HP virtual agents, however I am not comfortable removing panels and actually opening the tower. Can anyone help me out or tell me where to go from here?

Hi:

The product specs for your PC indicate that it came with W8.1.

Are you still running W8.1 on there, or did you take the free upgrade to W10?

I took the upgrade for windows 10 back when it came out.

OK.

If you are still stuck, you can clean install W10 by making a bootable USB installer using the Media creation tool on another windows PC, since yours isn't working.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, select the 'I don't have a product key' option, and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

Then you can install the drivers and available software from your PC's support page.
