dc5800 Small Form Factor
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My dc5800 Small Form Factor has been shutting down on its own during non-use, e.g. during the day or overnight. When I restart, I get the black screen where it asks if I want to start normally or in safe mode. After boot up, it asks if I want to search for a solution to the problem (which doesn't seem to return anything). It has never happened while I'm using the computer. It has done this periodically, but lately, it's every day. Help?

Solved the issue by changing some power settings. e.g. setting hard drive to not stop, pc to never sleep, etc.

Not sure if that's a good thing or not, but the computer no longer shuts itself down when I'm not using it.

Goclones, welcome to the forum.

The first thing that comes to mind is that the computer is overheating.  I suggest giving the computer a thorough cleaning to see if that helps.

Here is the Hardware Reference Guide for the computer.  It will give you all of the information that you need about the computer.

Cleaned it out...there wasn't much in the way of dust. A little bit. We'll see if it makes it through the night.

Thank you for the additional information.

Here's hoping!  If not, we'll try something else.

First night, OK. Last night...shut down. Any other thoughts?

Did you open the computer and clean the fans and the other spaces?  Simply cleaning to outside of the case may not be enough.  If there is a lot of dust on the fans, for instance, they will not circulate the air properly.  Canned air will help with the cleaning.  Just be careful not to rotate the fans too much.  Give this a try before we move to the next step.  Also, when it shuts down are you receiving an error message on the next boot?  This could mean that you have a power supply unit (PSU) failing.

You can monitor the temperatures in the case and components using a third party program, such as, Speedfan.

Yes, I cleaned inside around the fans. This is what comes up after I reboot:

Here is the Troubleshooting Guide for the computer.  It will give you some help at possibly diagnosing the problem.  Also, here is a guide for troubleshooting the power supply unit (PSU).  It is for desktops, but it will give you an idea what needs to be done.  I am beginning to believe that it is a failing PSU.  I has a similar problem several years ago.

I replaced the PSU. Still shutting down during when not actively being used (i.e. overnight, etc.).

You said that you cleaned around the fans.  Did you actually clean the fans themselves?  If not, this should be done.

When you are inside of the case, check all of the connectors to assure that they are fully connected.  Also, you should remove the memory and reseat it.  Over time the memory can become slightly corroded.  This can cause the symptoms that you are experiencing.
