HP Pavilion dm3-1111sa Entertainment Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP Laptop dm3-1111sa win7 upgraded to win10.  Update trashed computer.  Now will not boot int BIOS

Was working fine for over a year or two before this happened.  my son's old computer, same type, used as backup machine has suffered exactly the same fate.  Tried to fix bios with usb stick but nothing happened.

You can find a bios here but read the warning first

https://drivers.eu/Notebooks/HP/Pavilion+dm3-1111sa/BIOS

WARNING: THE ARCHIVE SITES BELOW ARE NOT HP AND PROBABLY HAVE UNWANTED SOFTWARE THAT WILL DOWNLOAD IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL

The following two sites have software for older systems that might not be available at HP. The driverscollection site is recommended more than the .eu one. Do not download any "driver downloader" or "updater". Please examine the buttons to ensure they download the actual driver and not a driver helper. Do not click on any advertisements or any page that has the word "AD"

https://us.driverscollection.com

https://drivers.eu/Printers/HP

https://drivers.eu/PC/HP

Close any popup that has "AD" in it. Download only official HP files. For laptops and desktops, the download filename will start with the two letters SP and have the form
SP153214.exe -or-
SP96885.exe etc.

Printer download will have the name or model of the printer in the filename.

============

try a hard reset first

On a laptop with detachable battery, remove battery and unplug computer.
If the power cord has a transformer (wall wart) unplug from the computer.
Press the power button 2-3 times to discharge residual electricity.

Plug back in then ---

  • Turn on the computer by holding the power button down for 20 full seconds then release.
  • Press the Power button one more time (if necessary) to start the computer.
  • Tap the ESC key about once a second after you see the LEDs on the keyboard flash.
  • Press F2 to run diagnostics: (v) 2.6 or later is recommended.

Either select the BIOS option, or press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings. See the date and time and press F10 to Save and Exit.

Thank you BeemerBiker for your helpful reply to my problem.  I have downloaded "sp48823.exe" from the hp support website.  It is on a bootable usb stick.  I have tried many attempts following your instuctions with the stick in all 4 usb ports (not at the same time!).  However the computer stays stuck where it has been since the trouble started.  The computer(s) switch on with a blank screen with the power light on rhs on and the wifi light orange.  This is on two hp dm3 -sa1111sa's with the SSD's removed.  I have exactly the same problem with a Dell Optiplex 390 desktop btw.  I am writing this on a new HP Pavilion Plus laptop which fortunately is working well.

Thank you BeemerBiker once again.  I have the required file (sp48823.exe) on a USB stick in the root directory.  Does this stick need to bootable or not?  Does the file name need to be changed?  I kind of hoping that following your instructions to the letter, the computer will wake up, load the bios file and then everything will be hunky dory.  Am I expecting too much?

Sorry there are so many questions but I have yet to achieve a fix.

Regards, Teckienomore.

You run the sp48823.exe application on the PC you want to flash the bios into

Can you boot the PC into windows 7, 8 , 10 or 11?

The PC has no operating system because it has no bios.  That is the problem.  Also the ssd is not physically installed as it has no chance without a BIOS.

The win-b should work

Not sure if it will work but read this

https://www.bios-mods.com/bios-recovery/insyde-bios-recovery/

Your sp file has the rom bios that ends in .fd

Use the application 7zip to extract the .fd file

I now have the 3656F28.fd file !  I was reluctant to run the sp48823.exe file due to microsoft's dire warning about making changes to "this" computer.  Later I hope to try the usb stick with the 3656F28.fd in the root directory.  and report back.

I note that the file is intended for Win7 which is what the computers were delivered with. 🤞🤞

BeemerBiker.

The file 3656F28.fd is already decompressed surely.  I have tried a non bootable usb stick in the two hp dm3 laptops that do not go beyond powered up using all the keystrokes and power on procedures suggested.  No sign of a BIOS system on either.

Seem to be going nowhere with this problem.  Any other ideas?
