Downloaded and installed HP SP84077 on 03 Dec 18 as well as a BIOS update (which required a restart). Computer won't boot with "Boot device not found (3F0)" error message. HP advisory Document ID: c06101701 discusses this problem, but doesn't say how to undo the damage caused by the RST update. How do I fix it without doing a recovery?

It came with the computer - I never paid attention to until the update from HP caused it to "go south". The HP Virtual Assistant can't help - I've done all of the hardware tests. I need a way to undo the damage.

Disregard the question. I was trying to avoid having to restore my HD to factory conditions and all the work of re-partitioning it and re-installing various programs. This evening I've done a factory restore, and it APPEARS to have solved the problem - just a lot of work ahead for me....
