@Woody195, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like you're being prompted for a password, but it’s not clear which one. Is the system asking for the administrator password before you can even get to Windows, or is it asking for the Microsoft account login password after you’ve already booted into the system?

If it’s the latter, you might be able to reset the Microsoft account password online if you have access to the email associated with the account. Let me know which one it is, and I can help guide you through it!

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Woody195,

Thank you for your response

If your HP laptop is asking for a power-up code or password and you don't have it, you can follow these steps to recover or bypass the issue:

Resetting Your Microsoft Account Password:

  • If the password is for your Microsoft account, you can reset it using another device.
  • Go to the Microsoft Recover your account page and follow the on-screen directions to reset your password.

BIOS Password Recovery:

  • If the power-up code or password is for BIOS, you will need to reset or bypass it.
  • You can try the following steps:
    • Shut down the laptop and remove any peripheral devices.
    • Disconnect all external devices and power cables.
    • Try removing the battery (if the battery is removable) and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.
    • Reinsert the battery and try powering on the laptop.

If this doesn't work, we may need to consider getting the device repaired, as HP doesn't set a default admin password. In that case, the system board might need to be addressed.

I hope this helps.
