the computer will not turn on with the battery installed, remove battery and computer works fine.

Battery does not charge. power supply has correct voltage.

with internal battery installed and power supply connected the led does ot light. Remove the battery and plug in the power supply the led lights and the computer works correctly. 

With battery installed and power supply plugged in the led does not come on and the battery does not charge..

@Nicetractor -- your symptoms imply a problem with the "power" circuits on the motherboard. They are not functioning correctly -- not charging the battery when the computer is powered-off, and not automatically switching to the power-adapter when the battery is at zero percent.  You may need to replace the motherboard -- that will be very expensive.
