try to check the temperatures

See, in the event watcher, if not a particular error, before the moment of the crash!

The majority of the crashes have happened when using hibernation, which I have now stopped using. The last time I tried to use it I put it into hibernation and noticed the machine was still running. I waited a minute or so for it to save data etc but the power stayed on. Moving the mouse and keyboard did nothing. I had to use the power button to close the machine. On rebooting  the HP error report said windows had been closed down incorrectly at the precise time I pushed the power button. On most other occasions the machine goes into hibernation, powers down, but when you go back to it it is dead and you have to push and hold the power button  to reboot. It has never started from hibernation by moving the mouse or keyboard.

I have installed the temp monitor program, but I'm sorry about my ignorance, how do I know it's running too hot?

You install the software, you open it, and it tells you the temperatures
It's quite simple
If you turn off the computer, with the button, it is normal to have an error

Thanks,

I know you will get a fault report if you power down without closing windows first.  I have no option though as the machine has either apparently crashed or locked me out of using the keyboard.  i am using Sleep mode mainly now if I don't want to power down and, SO FAR, no more crashes.

I'd still like a solution to the windows hibernation error.

Yes the temperatures are visible using the software, but what I don't know is at what level is it classed as overheating?

Cheers.

You have to do a test
You open the software, you give an image, with the temperatures here
Then you run a powerful program or two, and do the same.
Finally, the problem is it only, that once in hibernation you can not reopen it ..
Or is there a spat, it seems less obvious to me
Since you do not use it any more, normal that more problem finally!

i have never tested in hibernation, i doubt that works
But that would let you know if it overheats in this mode as well.

It only appears to be in hibernation that the computer crashes. I don't remember it doing it any other time.

I will save a temp chart when at rest, play a graphic intense program and save again,

This will be in the next few days.

Cheers

Don't be afraid of the command prompt.  That is a black (DOS type) window where you enter in commands.

Their is an 'elevated' command prompt where you enter command that change certain things.  Again, don't be afraid.  Do some Googling on your own.  It is something all users should be familiar with.

I started with DOS 40 years ago (I have the original DOS 1.1 5.25" floppy in my museum - lol) and know it can be intimidating, but for entering 1 or 2 basic command, you will be fine.

I remember DOS on the old Amstrad 386 machines. I never meddled then , I had colleagues who were engineers and they

did the fiddling.

How do I get the black DOS screen up on my Windows computer?
