3 pin charger, SSD questions

I have just purchased a second hand prodesk G4 SFF 1EY30ETABU. This has a single DP port which uses the Geforce 2gb graphics chip.

It arrived without the 3 pin power cable. As I am in UK what is the part number please, and a link to buy a new one. Is it an common part for hp desktop computers, or do I need to know voltage etc?

I want to install a second drive, and the sata bay is occupied. Is there another slot that I can use for SSD either m.2 or 2.5cm?

In the absence of a suitable slot I will swap out the dvd drive.

do you mean the cable that connects from the wall outlet to the back of the computer? if so this is a standard cable you can source from numerous places such as Amazon, or a local computer shop

Thanks so much for your advice. I did mean that connector, so it's easy to replace. 😁

I found this manual which shows the motherboard, and suggest that the SSD sata can be mounted on underside of the 3.5 drive currently in use.

It also pointed to the 3 SATA data connections, perhaps one is for the optical drive?

I attached the screenshot of the motherboard, manual is for prodesk G4 400 MT. I don't seem to have uploaded it first time. (Edit - it's for the mini tower, not SFF)

I will get a SATA SSD, 2.5 SanDisk and get data and power cables. (Not sure I'll be able to use them without a spare SATA slot.)

It does not show any m.2 slot, except for the WiFi. 

Is this not to the prodesk 400 G4?

1 M.2 slot for WLAN and 1 M.2 2230/2280 slot for storage

The m.2 is NVME memory not SATA I think. Does it take one of the pcie slots?

Crucial advise that m.2 SATA can be used, however...

The HP website (link below) shows that there is no m.2 2280 slot for sata SSD. There are two SATA connections possible, 1x ODD, 1x HDD or SSD. As it's a powerful PC I am really annoyed that the possible 6 SATA connections have been hobbled to 2.

The HP link in the answer post led me to prodesk 600, and locating 400 SFF isn't obvious.

you can use the one 16x slot (which is actually a 4x slot) for a M.2 carrier card that is "M" keyed for a SATA based 2280 ssd

like the SATA version of the sm951, but this is a expensive option as the sata model of the sm951 is currently much more expensive than the nvme version of the sm951 the SATA based SM950 pro is also another expensive option

unless you really need the speed of these high end SATA ssd's buy a pci-3 2x card based on the marvel 88930 chipset

it uses a two pci lanes and if only connecting one sata drive can reach 800mbps in read/write speeds

a example is the PEX-40057 card (about 50.00 online)

Thanks DGroves, I appreciate your time and trouble in proposing solutions. I need 2 fast boot drives, and in the SFF case I could more easily attach m.2 drives than 2.5. I wonder if there is a dual m.2 adapter? I haven't found one on Amazon uk.

The pex-40057 is based on pcie 2.0 probably because no one expects to be in need of additional SATA connections today. Two SATA SSD drives (if they can fit) would work well on that, as no data transfer between the drives would take place (one of the negative reviews mentioned this fouls up the transfer rate.)

huh?....you can only use/boot from one drive at a time so what's the desire for two boot drives?

you misunderstand, the pex-40057 fits in and uses a pcie 2.0 (or faster) slot to give you a PCIe 3.0  6GBps SATA bus with 4 ports

the STARTECH S322M225R is really only usefull as a raid 1 device, like the pex-40057 it shares bandwidth between both devices when more than one device is attached to it
