My Chassis Fan Was Not Working. I tried Many Other Fans but none of them worked. So, I decided to tap the fan wire with one of the hard drive wires because the hard drive wires had 12V Power, the same as the required for the fans. Well, the fan and the hard drive wire are working fine, but I am getting a message saying "Error 512 - Rear Chassis Fan Not Decteted". Now, is there any way not to get that error like putting a jumper on those pins or doing something in the bios because it is very annoying to press F1 every time I want to turn on my computer.

Also, why did the port stop working and is there any way to fix it.

Check to ensure that the FAN header pins are all straight and that the fan connector is seated fully.

The pins are straight.

All I want to know now is how to remove that messsage.

I suggest you return that fan and try another brand.

That was recommended by another HP Expert and it would seem to be a good plan.

The fans are not expensive.

I think I have already mentioned that I have tried multiple fan but none of them worked.

I suggest trying an updated BIOS.

If that does not work, you might consider using a splitter to avail yourself of the PSU, if there are extra four pin cables present.

No bios updates are there on the hp website. Please correct me if I am wrong

HP Recommended

You are right about that.

There hasn't been a BIOS update for the HP Pro 3330 Microtower PC since the days of Windows 7 on Feb. 19,2013.

You can try refreshing the SMBus, that is the motherboard bus where the fan and the BIOS interact via the fan's sense wire.

  1. Open Device Manager, and then click Start > Control Panel > Device Manager.
  2. Select View > Devices by Type.
  3. Expand System Devices.
  4. Double-click SMBus device.
  5. Select the Driver tab.
  6. Click Roll Back Driver to restore.
  7. Reboot the system.

If that does not work, it will be a matter of just accepting  the error message.

The SMBus Device is not showing. I have included a screenshot of all the available options.Device Manager 16-09-2023 21_19_52.png
