HP ProDesk 600 G2 Desktop Mini PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

is it possible to upgrade the processor of HP ProDesk 600 G2 Desktop Mini PC to 7th gen? Because i need hardware acceleration for 4k HEVC/x265 videos. If it is possible do i need additional steps like bios update or something else?

Thank you!

no this will not take a different generation cpu, it will only support 6th gen cpu's

also note that this system is a very poor choice for video editing

due to it's compact size it has a limited power supply and only takes one x8 low profile 35 watt or less video card which severely limits your upgrade choices

the HP approved video card options are listed in the HP quickspecs for this model

I need it for video playback only. Not for editing. I found that, the chipset is Intel® Q150. And it support 7th generation cpus.

Unless there are some bios limitation by HP.

I need 7th gen cpu because they have hardware acceleration for HVEC.

while the chipset may support 7th gen cpu's the HP bios only has support for the 6th gen and due to this no 7th gen cpu will work

for video playback, upgrading to a discrete video card such as a nvidia 1030 is possible and this GPU does support 4k playback in specific scenarios
