Activation problem after motherboard replacement

Hello, I changed my motherboard the other day. I can't activate windows 10 after the change. I click "I recently changed hardware on this computer" in the troubleshooting section, but it keeps showing that "we cannot re-enable your windows account because our servers are not currently accessible." and this warning doesn't seem to change. How can I now go forward from this point. windows 10 u mu. I got it from windows 8 update. Thank you in advance

I am not a HP employee.

Did HP change the motherboard? Contact HP Support  (Link). HP may not have tattooed the replacement motherboard.

Try the troubleshooting steps found in this Microsoft document (Link). You may have to contact Microsoft Support.

Motherboard changes are fuzzy if you switched motherboard (MB) manufacturers.  For example, you install a non HP MB in your PC. Or you have an HP motherboard installed in your PC by a third party. Microsoft may or may not activate W10.

You may have to purchase a new W10 product key.

With OEM PCs, the Windows license is tied to the hardware, not to the PC owner.  That license information is encoded into the firmware of the motherboard. When you discarded the old motherboard, you also discarded the HP OEM license -- and HP is not obligated to provide you a second license.

If you had HP do the motherboard swap, as @Grzwacz indicated, they would have encoded the new board to carry over the license.

But, if you swapped them yourself, there is nothing you can do at this point and would have to purchase a new license.

If you had the WIN 10 Anniversary edition installed, it forwarded your digital license.
