HP Pavilion Desktop PC TP01-2000i (1K4B6AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi, I have just bought the pavilion listed and I wanted to add a 1070GTX video card to the pci expansion slot i can see on the motherboard but out of the box it did not seem to work and I had a black screen.  Do I need to adjust BIOS or is the card unsuitable for this PC?

Yes I did, harder to read. But machine is from nowhere

            https://partsurfer.hp.com/partsurfer?searchtext=52J13PA

It could be one of the following machines

          https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-desktop-pc-tp01-2000i/2100367767/model/2100405248/p...

And I can't find one on the Australian market. It could be the following machine

          https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-desktop-pc-tp01-2000i/2100367767/model/2100405248/d...

It has 310 W Gold efficiency power supply. The Nvidia GTX 1070 requires a machine with 500W PSU

          https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/geforce/graphics-cards/geforce-gtx-1070/specifications/

Therefore definitely machine does not have enough power to run new card. Please use the following tips to order a new PSU

Hope this helps.

The minimum power requirements for gtx 1070 is 450 watts.

I had trouble finding the specifications for your system but from reading the following I suspect your power supply is not sufficient

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/GPU-power-supply-for-TP-01-2000...

Does your system have the 8pin PCIe power cable?

May be the PSU (power) is too weak. What EXACTLY is your machine ? Please get its SKU as shown on system information, for example

Thankyou for your quick reply, I think you may be right... I guess my choice is to upgrade it or settle for the onboard card.  I'm a little bit worried though since i like to do VR - I'll have to try it out.

I'm downloading Cyberpunk 2077 to do a comparison, i'm hoping the internal card is up to it but I'm not super hopeful as the specs were a little vague.

Sorry, the image is very blur, I can't read its SKU. Please type it (only 11 characters or so) then post back.

Thankyou very much for going to so much trouble to find information for me about this.

I think you diagnosed it correctly and the power supply needs to be upgraded before I can run the 1070 so I have set that in motion.

Regarding the trouble finding the model, I am not really sure why it's not showing up  - I bought it off the shelf in an Officeworks here in Canberra.  The exact model is HP Pavilion TP01-2012A I7 DT .

I was somewhat worried before I got it open that there wouldn't be room for the card in such a small case but it mounts fine all I need to worry about now is the PSU upgrade and improving the cooling to cope with the card.

There is a single x16 PCI slot for those who are wondering.

Anyway thankyou again for your assistance, I can't find the thumbs up on your posts (as mentioned in your PS) but you definitely get one from me 🙂
