I want to add ram to my HP Pavilion. How do I know how much to add? Getting sort of confused as to figure out how much I can add to my system. It appears I have 4 Ram initially installed? How much more can I add? Can someone please help? Thank you.

Hi NonSequitur777,
Thank you for your reply. So, it seems adding RAM in your opinion is my best option. And, your recommendation of 2, 8GB Ram sticks is my best option for better HP computer performance. I guess the CPU performance I was inquiring about is not and issue. Good. I do appreciate your help and patience in trying to get better performance from my HP computer. Thank you very much, NonSequitur777

Yes, this was very helpful, thank you.
Your HP Pavilion p2-1113w Desktop PC (qw726aa) has two RAM slots, and according to: https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/pavilion-p2-1113w and other sources, can be fitted with up to 2 x 16GB of DDR3 PC3-12800, 1600 MHz, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, UDIMM, 240-pin RAM sticks. As per your desktop's specs, RAM speed will be downgraded to 1333 MHz.
However, 2 x 8GB would do just fine, and can be purchased very affordably via eBay, such as this purchase example ($24.99): https://www.ebay.com/itm/394562711237?epid=150726627&hash=item5bddc52ec5%3Ag%3AbgkAAOSwTx1j89Gz&amda....
For best performance, it is best to have matching RAM sticks: same brand, model and capacity.
Hope this was helpful.
Kind Regards,

Hi, NonSequitur777
Thank you for your reply,it is appreciated. I will need some help understanding some of your comments, NonSequitur777. Being I'm not a computer wizard, can you please explain, "can be fitted with up to 2 x 16GB of DDR3 PC3-12800, 1600 MHz, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, UDIMM, 240-pin RAM sticks. As per your desktop's specs, RAM speed will be downgraded to 1333 MHz.
It appears my computer can have as much capacity as 2, 16 GB of RAM installed? Can you tell me how much RAM does my HP computer have currently? Is it 1, 8 GB of RAM and I can add another 8 GB RAM to that as maybe you are suggesting?
What does DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz, Non-ECC Unbuffered, UDIMM, 240-pin RAM sticks mean? I have no idea what any of that is, NonSequitur777, and probably over my head to understand it? I'm assuming those numbers are brand specs?
I guess to make it simple, and maybe you did, your comment "However, 2 x 8GB would do just fine, and can be purchased very affordably via eBay, such as this purchase example".
So, if I understand it? My computer has 1 8GB RAM stick already and I can install another 8GB RAM stick? Can you please explain, NonSequitur777.
I completely understand your comment about keeping the components the same brand, makes sense. "For best performance, it is best to have matching RAM sticks: same brand, model and capacity."
I do appreciate your help and understanding and hopefully, patience in helping me figure out how much RAM I can add to my HP Pavilion computer. Thank you, NonSequitur777

No worries, that's why we are here for you.
Yes, your PC could be fitted with as much as two 16GB RAM sticks, but honestly, you don't need that much RAM. I just included this information, because, well, for informational purposes. The reference to: "DDR3 PC3-12800, 1600 MHz, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, UDIMM, 240-pin RAM" just spells out your PC's basic RAM parameters.
Let's take a look what RAM you got.
To that end, please type in: cmd in your Windows search bar, then right-click on Command Prompt, then left-click on: Run as administrator, and: Yes to confirm.
Then copy/paste/enter each of the following three wmic command separately exactly as shown:
wmic memorychip get devicelocator, manufacturer, partnumber, capacity, speed
wmic computersystem get totalphysicalmemory
wmic memphysical get maxcapacity
And you'll see this on your screen -as displayed on my desktop:
Please provide this information.

Hi NonSequitur777
Thank you for your reply, it is appreciated. I did what you requested and have the info for the C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe as you asked about. I'm unable to send a screen shot of the C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe, window though, which no doubt would help you.
Nonetheless, I have that info. What do you suggest now? Thank you, NonSequitur777

You should be able to post a screenshot here. Do a "print screen", open it in Microsoft Paint, then crop it (select section & copy) and then right-click on your reply screen to paste it. If this doesn't work for you, please copy the information so that I can take a look at it.
Kind Regards,
NonSequitur777

Thank you for the screen shot, very helpful indeed.
What it tells me/confirms is the following: you got one 4GB (=4294967296 bytes) Hynix HMT351U6CFR8C-H9 DDR3 PC3-10600, 1333 MHz RAM stick, running at 1066 MHz.
Your PC can handle up to 2 x 16GB (=33554432 Kilobytes), but you won't need that much RAM as mentioned.
My initial recommendation stands: buy this affordable 2 x 8GB DDR3 PC3-12800, 1600 MHz RAM set via eBay: Kingston KVR16N11K2/16 2 x 8GB PC3-12800 DDR3-1600 240-Pin Desktop Memory 740617207484 | eBay.
